Strike: Shortage of Water Worsened in BUK, School Buses Resumes Operation
INFOMEDIA – Water scarcity has hit Bayero University Kano, BUK, following a nationwide strike action by non-teaching staff unions of universities.
Recall that on Friday, February 5, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, had embarked on a nationwide strike over the Federal Government’s inability to meet their demands.
Some of the demands, DAILY NIGERIAN can report, included the handling of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System, IPPIS, sharing formula of the N40bn earned academic allowances and non-payment of arrears of the new minimum wage, among others.

Findings by DAILY NIGERIAN revealed that the scarcity came about as a result of the shutting down of the water reservoir and its control room by the non-teaching staff members of the university who are currently on strike.
Our correspondent gathered that the power house of the university was also shut down, leaving houses, class rooms and hostels in complete darkness.
A student who spoke on condition of anonymity, said due to the power outage, they could not read in the library or even under the street lights.
“We are planning for our exams in the next few days. We are really disturbed.
INFOMEDIA reports that the non-teaching staff unions had insisted that they would not give any concession to all categories of staff except the security for the protection of lives and property.
Even the doctors, nurses and other health personnel in the university clinic were forced to remain at home.
