A Grief Reflection on Nigeria’s Independence – Sani Aliyu

INFOMEDIA – Nigeria never deserved independence in 1960, as she was immature in almost all aspects of human development. Just semi-literate folks in their youthful age with skeptic idea mounted pressure to be granted independence which a moment later seemed unable to control the major upheaval brought about by the skepticism among them, reason being that they were naïve and irresponsible to surmount a precarious country like Nigeria.
Subsequent upon the above, their legacies continue to flourish among their predecessors from ethnicity to religious bigotry, to nepotism and tribalism. Yet, they claimed Nigeria is one and indivisible nation.

Whenever an objection rose to draw their attention to their flaws, they use other’s failures as yardstick to justify their failures and when they want to implement policies that favour their interests best, they imply other’s success to justify viability of it.
However, in my view Nigeria should never have gotten independence until around 1990 – 1995, notwithstanding, half of the colonial masters should stay with us till date to head the bureaucratic and technical part of governance, so as to maintain persistent competency and effective service delivery to citizens.

Moreover, it is better we stay with Britons and enjoy half of total what God has endowed Nigeria with, than to gain complete independence and become a downtrodden state where almost every aspect is flawed.

Apparently, with Britons, Electricity, Education, Healthcare, security and infrastructure would never be an issue to Nigeria, law and order must be exercised to protect and enhance the socio-economic integrity of the nation.

Nigeria has vast abandoned resources, yet citizens are overwhelmed with extreme poverty. I am sure Britons would utilize the resources available to maintain human standard and wellbeing of Nigerians, if they were the leaders. Although, they would divide and send half of it to Britain, we don’t care to share with them what if it were us would be abandoned till eternity. Likewise, with the bogus independence, our elites have been amassing the country’s wealth and stashing them with the Britons voluntarily which signifies the same thing.

Consequently, it technically makes no difference the Nigeria’s current situation with the pre-independence era.
Citizens are deprived of everything responsible for Government to provide, only few citizens are privileged to benefit whom among have oil blocs, evade taxes, own the whole power sector, award hoaxed contracts to themselves and evade executing them while fully paid by the Government, Privatize Government corporations and purchased them at ridiculously cheaper prices and sign a thievery irrevocable contracts with FRN that colonize them over the country while refused to mention any penalty on their part should they fail to accomplish the deal as agreed upon.

Meanwhile, other citizens cannot afford anti-malaria pills at N400 which as a result, malaria could kill them and Millions cannot afford daily 3 square meals.
Furthermore, Britons would execute plan of our towns and cities in accordance with land use act, but our fellow Nigerians deprived citizens that, hence, they live in slump areas where fire fighter truck could not have access to, during fire outbreak.
Instead, they execute a plan where it would be sold millions of Naira, so that no ordinary citizen could afford and only they can occupy and name it Island, Millionaires Quarters or G.R.A. no go area for the poor citizens.

Finally, I am not happy with what the Colonial masters did for handling this great country to premature folks who failed to guide the country to progress but to regrets and I wish someone with strong mind and amicable approach will emerge to salvage this country from its current torpid state to a successful one for our younger ones to proud of, amen.
