As part of efforts in putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged An-Nur Possibility Centre embarked on a one day visit to the mentally disabled and orpahanage home in Kano.

The aimed of the visit to the orphanage is to lend our benevolence to the children in the shelter and leave lasting legacy in their minds, with the belief that the visit would offer them some sense of belonging and that the society values them.

An-Nur is an infant organization which is founded by a level 100 student of Bayero University, Kano named Ismail Okon. The name of the organization which means “light” was primarily setup in order to help the poor and the needy.

The An-Nur Group visited Torrey home of the disabled in kano state first, Torrey home which started in 1968 and was founded by an American Elizebeth Torrey.

She requested for a permanent site from the late emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Abdullahi Bayero and started the home all by herself without any support of the government or the NGOs, with the achievement over some years.

The Kano state government had interest in it, after ten (10) years she handed over the home to the government. Some of the classes of children we encountered were abandoned children, lost and found and many more.
After an hour with the disable children, An-Nur proceeded to the orphanage home where the orphans caregiver give us a brief history of the home.

“Tere are five category of children in this orghanage, we have the abandon children, lost and found, court convicted mothers, ill mothers so they take care of the children and the accident victims. The home was also stated by an American named Mrs. Julie in 1957 she started with 4 kids with the increment in the children she ask for help from the native authorities then. Due to insufficient sponsors few children are studying at a private school while others study in public school
It is so disheartened to learn that some of the children where abandon by their own parents because of one or two ailment there are facing , visiting this places are mind shaking and visitations like this are necessary so that the children will not feel abandon and rejected by the society.

The homes said if people can come for visitation or assistance in any form it will be appreciated.
After the visitation speaking with the founder he said the organization aim is to reach out to orphans, disable people, less privilege, sick patients at least once a month.
