As BUK’s VC Resolves to Make It ICT Driven-Institution in Nigeria, Students Opine

INFOMEDIA – With regard to the promulgation made by the newly elected Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, in an interview with INFOMEDIA, where he pledged to make Bayero University Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Driven-Institution in Nigeria. To this light, a manifold of BUK’s students were delighted by the Prof. Sagir’s statement thus opined their various concern via BUK’s Facebook platform regarding the topic in question.

As a Bayero University, Kano student what is your take regarding VC’s statement to make Bayero University Information and Communication Technology Driven-Institution, is the question that triggered the below responses.

Ibrahim Suleiman Ibrahim revealed that it’s a welcome development, noted that it may pave a way for students to start having access to their results online and Wifi to also be available in the campuses as this will assist students particularly less privileged in conducting various assignments. He added that Online suggestion platforms should be introduce for each Department with the Departmental IT Officer, frequently checking those anonymous suggestions instead of manual suggestion boxes.

In the same vein, Yahya Muhammad Abdullahi expressed optimism that the newly elected vice chancellor will transform the university in respect to his track record as a pioneer Director of Development Office. Appealing to the Vice Chancellor to introduce a subsidy networking program for students in the institution as a general course to acquire digital skills in order to key into the global digital trend as the world is moving into the age of Infopreneurship.

On his part, Abubakar Idris Madobi of Department of Accounting prayed for Allah’s intervention for the newly elected VC’s policies to be championed without any hindrance, adding that
the result should be access online for privacy and confidentiality purposes, however, WiFi should also be made available within the compuses of the University.
While Ahmad Sulaiman calls on the new Vice Chancellor to introduce CBT Test and Exam in the university.

Meanwhile, Adda’u Usman opined that the present state of internet connectivity in Bayero University is not appreciative. While commending the Vice Chancellor on this noble policy, however, he stressed the need for an all inclusive internet connectivity and free WIFI to be installed in every nooks and crannies on both campuses to enable both staff and students to get access to any information regarding their studies.
He added that Students’ result should be placed online to reduce the burden of traveling from far place in order to check result, saying this will go along way in easing the students difficulties in so many aspects during their course of study in Bayero University Kano.

Sulaiman Maijama’a, Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Communication, Concluded by recommending that the Vice Chancellor should also consider resolving the lingering problems that have been bedeviling the school portal every year due to traffic congestion, especially when it comes to hostel application and registration be addressed.

Based on the foregoing and optimistic responses from the students, it’s clear indication that a larger portion of Bayero University students suggested for a results placement to be transferred online and availability of WiFi across the campuses of the university.
