The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says it will embark on an indefinite strike if the federal government refuses to fulfil the promises it made to the union as contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

President of the union, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who disclosed this at the secretariat of the union in the University of Abuja, berated the government over its failure to attend to the needs of the union.

He said such a treatment had left them with no choice but to declare an industrial action.

“We are giving the federal government a three-week ultimatum.

“If after three weeks they don’t meet our demands, we will be going on strike.

“We believe we have tried enough by giving them enough time,” Osodeke told journalists during the briefing.

ASUU’s fresh agitation is coming a few days after the Senior Staff Association of Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities threatened to shut down various universities over sharing formula of N22.1bn Earned Allowance.
