ASUU Set to Call Off Strike Soon – Buhari’s Aide

INFOMEDIA – The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Student Affairs, Honourable Nasir Adhama, has assured that the eight-month strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will come to an end soon.

INFOMEDIA reports that members of ASUU in March declared an indefinite strike following the lecturers’ disagreement to the federal government’s move to implement the use of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, (IPPIS) and the implementation of existing agreements between ASUU-FGN.

The presidential aide on youth and student affairs gave the assurance during a chat with News Digest when he was asked about the efforts of his office in ending the lingering ASUU strike. He said, “We had a discussion with the Minister of Labour because he is the one engaging with ASUU, we are working towards seeing that our fellow students will be back soon”.

The Senior Special Assistant believes that the engagement between the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige and ASUU would be a fruitful one, which would put an end to the lingering strike action for Nigerian students in public universities to resume academic activities. The New Digest reports that the Nigerian government has agreed to pay ASUU salaries using a different mode of payment other than IPPIS.
