BUK Qualifies for HIFL 2021

INFOMEDIA – Bayero University football team has qualified for the Higher Institutions Football League (HIFL) tournament through qualifiers which took place from 19th to 24th April, 2021 in BUK.
BUK Football Team popularly called BUK Stallions was grouped in Zone A alongside Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil, Kogi State University, Ayingba, Abubabaker Tafawa Balewa University, Bauch and University of Maiduguri.
A total of 46 games were played across five zones in Nigeria to determine the universities that would join the super four; University of Agriculture, Makurdi, University of Calabar, Obafemi Awolowo University and University of Ilorin. They were selected based on their performance in the 2019 edition.
Two top schools from each zone qualified for the round of 16 which will be played in June this year and two wildcards were selected based on their performance in the qualifiers to be among the 16 universities.
BUK Stallions opened its HIFL campaign with a barren draw against KUST Pyramids.
before beating Kogi State University by a solitary goal courtesy of Mustapha Mustapha. In the third match, BUK Stallions lost 0-2 from a hard fought University of Maiduguri before getting better of ATBU by 2-1.
Despite winning two matches and drawing one, BUK finished the group with seven points same with University of Maiduguri but the latter has superior goal difference. BUK was selected as the best loser from the north while Lagos State University was selected from the South.
Kogi State University, KSU Stars topped BUK zone with nine points after defeating ATBU 3-0, KUST 2-1 and Unimaid 2-1.
The BUK Bulletin asked KSU Coach, S.A Adeyemi on what was the secret behind his success, he said determination, commitment and resilience gave his team an edge over all other teams. He said he was determined to win the ultimate HIFL prize at the end of the day.
