Emir of Kano, Malam  Muhammadu Sanusi II, has challenged northern governors to earmark more money to improve the educational sector considering the number of out-of-school children and the decline in education in northern Nigeria.

Malam  Muhammadu Sanusi II, made the call in Kaduna at the annual commemoration lectures of Malam Haruna Soba.

The Emir said with the allocation of more fund to education, every state in the region would be better off for it.

INFOMEDIA reports that Malam Haruna Soba was the first Northerner to become chief education officer in charge of teacher training in the region and with the creation of new states, he was transferred  to the North-Central and promoted to chief inspector of education in 1968. He, however, died in 1988.

The lecture was titled: “Education as an Instrument for National Integration: The Northern Nigeria Crisis.”

The Emir represented on the occasion by a District Head, Alhaji Habibu Bello, said education is key to national development and  as such, if the state government can vote more money for this in their annual budget, the situation will improve gradually and the region will be better off.”
