The emir of Karaye Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II has appealed to Bayero University Kano to reconsider the decision of increasing hostel and other fees charged by the university.

The Emir made the plea while receiving the executive members of the Bayero University Kano Students Union Government who paid homage to the Emir in his palace.

A statement issued by Karaye Emirate council Spokesman Haruna Gunduwawa on Wednesday and obtained by INFOMEDIA said Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II said,  the plea becomes imperative considering the poor economic challenges among the people.

The Emir said, reversing the increase by the university would afford children of the poor to afford education.

‘’The Emir lauded the union for the visit and enjoined them to remain committed for the wellbeing of their members so as to justify the confidence reposed on them, ‘’said the statement.

He, however, warned them to always be law-abiding students and strictly adhere to the University’s rules.

The statement said the president of Bayero University Kano Students Union Government Sadi Garba Sa’id solicited the Emir’s intervention over the recent decision of the University’s Senate to increase hostel and other charges for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

According to the statement, the President said his members were highly disturbed with the decision of the University as many students cannot afford the new charges which would affect their education negatively.

At the end of the visit, the Union has honored the Emir with an award of Excellence as “Epitome of Good leadership” in recognition and appreciation of the Emir’s tremendous contribution towards educational development,  job opportunities,  societal transformation and general services for national development.
