Ganduje Vows to Prosecute Violators of Covid-19 Market Protocols
INFOMEDIA – Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has announced that the Kano state government has inaugurated a tribunal to punish residents who refuse to wear face masks in Kano markets, commercial buses and other public places as part of efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.
INFOMEDIA reports that Mr Ganduje disclosed this at the Government House on Sunday while flagging off a second phase of the distribution of face masks to members of transport unions in the state.
“We would collaborate with security agencies and other stakeholders to enforce compliance with the law requiring members of the public to wear face coverings,” he said.
The governor also warned commercial vehicle operators such bus and taxi drivers as well as tricycle (Adaidaita Sahu) riders that they would be held responsible if their passengers fail to wear face masks.
“It is your fault if your passengers are found not using face masks.

“We have provided you with the materials, you must use it, all your passengers must use it otherwise the security agencies would stop you from moving from one place to another,” Mr Ganduje warned.
The governor said in spite of the success being recorded against the virus, challenges still remain.
Similarly Nasiru Yusuf Gawanu, the state’s deputy governor, who is also the chairman of the Kano Task Force on COVID-19, said since the beginning of the pandemic the state and local governments had distributed 2 million pieces of fask masks.
He added that the state government has now launched the distribution of 1 million more masks, making a total of 3 million.
On his part, the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero expressed happiness about the declining cases of coronavirus in the state and urged residents to abide by health regulations to sustain the success against the virus.
“We call on people to abide by health regulations by wearing face coverings and washing their hands in addition to maintaining social distancing,” he said.
Mr Bayero also urged the people to shelve celebrations during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir festive season in order to reduce the spread of the COVID -19.
