A group led by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has written to the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, over what they termed as “failure of the leadership of the party to manage” divergent interests in Kano State.

On Tuesday, the three Kano senators — Kabiru Gaya (APC-Kano South), Ibrahim Shekarau (APC-Kano Central) and Barau Jibrin (APC-Kano North) — and four members of the House of Representatives met at Mr Shekarau’s residence to strategize on the “future of the state and the party”.

The members, led by the chairman House Committee on Security, Sha’aban Sharada (APC-Kano Municipal), are Tijjani Jobe (APC-Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimingado); Haruna Dederi (APC-Karaye/Rogo) and; Nasiru Auduwa (APC-Gabasawa/Gezawa). Also in attendance was a party chieftain, Haruna Danzago.

But at the continuation of the meeting on Wednesday, the senator representing Kano South, Kabiru Gaya, and a party chieftain Haruna Danzago backed out. The group however got additional impetus in person of Shehu Dalhatu.

Rising from the Wednesday meeting the stakeholders lamented in a letter sent to the national leadership of the party that they were schemed out of the party affairs in the state.

“We, the undersigned, are constrained to write this petition to you in the hope that your timely intervention in the crisis which the Kano State Chapter of our great party now faces will be decisively addressed in the interest of the party and its members

“It is needless to state that as major Stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC), we all had invested massively and worked tirelessly for the successes which the party recorded in the previous elections.

“The enormity of our contributions can well be attested to, by all keen watchers of what transpired in Kano State during the 2019 elections which saw the return of the government of APC in Kano State.

“Soon after the 2019 elections however, we began to see the party drifting gradually into devastating problems mainly as a result of the failure of the leadership of the party to manage the divergent interests of the party members and leaders.

“The party leaders jettisoned all promises and undertakings of the carrying the party leaders/elders along in decision making on matters affecting the party, much less in the affairs of governance.

“Instead of strengthening fair and democratic internal party mechanism to address problems within the party through effective management of internal processes, the party leadership left every party issues simply in the hands of a certain group of very few individuals whose undemocratic mindset has thrown the party in to devastating crisis,” the statement reads.

The party leaders therefore said they rejected the outcome of the ward and local government congresses conducted by the Ganduje-backed party leadership.

“In the circumstances therefore we in this Forum has unanimously resolved as follows:

“1. We reject in totality, the purported congresses said to be carried out by the state party leadership at the Ward and Local Government levels in the entire state because of its exclusiveness and flagrant violation of all known civilized norms, rules and party guidelines

“2. We shall resist any attempt by the state party leadership to carry out state congress in the same exclusive and Kangaroo manner aimed at imposing party officers on the members of the party in the state.

“3. We urge the National leadership of the party to urgently take decisive steps to end the destructive tendencies manifestly exhibited in the management of the party affairs in Kano State,” the statement read
