Bashir Galadanci, a social media activist in Kano, has been arrested by the infamous Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Kano and detained at their facility for three days.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that Mr Galadanci was arrested for criticising the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, on Facebook.

Sources said Mr Galadanci was a persistent critic of the police spokesman and the command and has on many occasions faulted the police operations in the state since the posting of a new commission and a PPRO.

When contacted, Mr Haruna, a deputy superintendent of police, denied that Mr Galadanci was arrested for personally criticising him.

“I am not even aware of the arrest of anybody bearing that name until I contacted the officer in charge of SARS.

He was not arrested for criticizing me personally, but for divulging police internal information on social media without authorisation, thereby bringing the whole command to ridicule.

We believe that there are some insiders who are feeding him with sensitive information, and he made useful confessions regarding his informants within us,” Mr Haruna said.
