The Head, Department of Food Science and Technology, Dr. Dahiru Adamu has said that the Kano government has no single Agricultural Project in the State.
He said that the about sixteen Agricultural Project across the state are all projects by Non Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) just as he stated that Nigeria’s ban on rice importation will have positive implications on the developmentof the country.
Dr. Adamu stated this while delivering a keynote lecture titled “Nigeria’s Rice Value Chain: Critical Roles of Regulators, Intervention and Protection” at the opening of the PRNigeria Kano centre on Thursday.
According to Dr. Adamu, closing the border will improve the value chain of rice which includes logistics, sac production and sale, job security, local mechanical technology among others.

He explained that not closing the border would have killed these value chain.
“Closing our borders means protecting us and necessitating us to invent.” Dr. Adamu explained.
“For example, rice oil is premium. It can be used for pharmaceutical, cosmetics, feeds etc. After extracting the oil, you have the chaf which can be used for fish feeds, poultry feeds etc but we throw them away. Not closing the border kills all these.”
Dr. Adamu further explained that if we start processing and patronising our own made in Nigerian Rice, the value chain will catalyse needed reforms and development whilst creating jobs.
He listed the quick wins for Nigeria to include critical manpower development and use, logistics control and development, informed planning, policy creation and sustainable employment among other gains.
