NASU, SSANU Suspends Nationwide Strike
INFOMEDIA – The Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), on Thursday, suspended its indefinite nationwide strike over outstanding arrears of minimum wage and other demands.
INFOMEDIA report that NASU and SSANU under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) had embarked on a nationwide strike on Feb. 5, to compel the Federal Government to address their demands.
A Circular to All Branch Chairmen of NASU and SSANU which was site by our correspondents said the strike action has been suspended effective midnight of Friday, 26th 2021.
The Circular jointly signed by Prince Peters A. Adeyemi, General Secretary, NASU, and Comrade Mohammed H. Ibrahim, National President, SSANU read:
“The National leadership of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NASU and SSANU acknowledges the perseverance and doggedness of our members in the ongoing struggle and send her warm appreciation to members in the Universities and Inter-University Centres.
“You will recall that the ongoing strike action commenced on the midnight of Friday, 5th February 2021, after a 3-day nationwide protest and a 14-day notice to the Government to take action on the content of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached and signed on 20th October, 2020.
“After the review of the strike action at the meeting held with the Branch Chairmen of NASU and SSANU on 12 February, 2021, at Chida International Hotel, Abuja, Branch Chairmen were directed to go back to their respective branches and hold Congress to take decisions on the strike.
“Having reviewed the collated responses from the Branches and the signed MoA with the Federal Government with identified timelines, the National JAC arising from her meeting of Thursday, 25 February, 2021 hereby announces the suspension of the ongoing strike. Consequently, you are hereby informed that the strike action has been Suspended from midnight of Friday, 26th 2021.
