NITDA, Arewa Agenda Train Northern Journalists to Help Drive Digital Economy

INFOMEDIA – The National Information Technology and Development Agency in collaboration with Arewa Agenda and PRNigeria organized a two day training for Journalists in Northern Nigeria on how to effectively utilize the modern day technology skills to enhance their profession.

The workshop themed “Setting the Digital Reporting Agenda for a Digital Nigeria” focused on leveraging the art of Digital trend, effective use of Social Media, Networking among others and was aimed at equipping Journalists in northern Nigeria with skills to report professionally and contribute their quota in setting a digital Nigeria.

Speaking earlier, the Head of Corporate Communication, National Information Technology and Development (NITDA), Hajiya Hadiza Umar who was also the guest speaker said the training is part of NITDA’s effort in bridging the digital gap, surface digital literacy among citizens in order to be at par with their counterparts globally.

Also speaking, the Editor-in-Chief of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, Yushau A. Shuaib reminded participants of the workshop of the role they can play in curbing fake news as well as using social media to effectively tackle the negative narrative and stereotyping in the North.

“It is very sad that the North is still behind.
This workshop is therefore timely as it will help build the participants’ capacity on digital technologies “I am glad that NITDA is intervening in digital literacy and skills. The technology is the future, and this future is already here to stay,” he added.

On his part, the Managing Editor of Arewa Agenda, Dahiru Muhammad Lawal while unveiling the “Network for Advocates of Digital Reporting (NADIR)” said the forum will help in organizing and coordinating digital advocacy and create the needed awareness for mass adoption of Digital Economic Opportunities in Nigeria.
