The Kano state road and traffic agency (KAROTA) says it is going ahead with its plan to reduce the number of Adaidaita Sahu tricycles in the state from 500,000 to 200,000.

KAROTA managing director Baffa Babba Dan Agundi declared this in an exclusive interview with KANO FOCUS.

Mr Dan Agundi said the reduction exercise is to control overcrowding of Kano roads which he said poses a serious security threat.

He said registered Adaidaita Sahu operators will be issued driving permits while trackers will be installed on their tricycles.
Mr Dan Agundi said the Abdullahi Ganduje administration has made plans for the excess Adaidaita Sahu operators who will not be registered in the new scheme.

According to him, the government has introduced numerous empowerment programs which will help the banned operators to become self-employed.

He added that the government has also made provisions for commuters in Kano metropolis to alleviate the likely hardship they might face due to the reduction of Adaidaita Sahu tricycles.

Mr Dan Agundi explained that the Kano state government has signed an agreement with experts to initiate a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme.

He however did not state when the scheme is likely to take-off.
