Student Union Government (SUG), Bayero University, Kano, has today organized a town hall meeting at the convocation arena, new campus, on its budget with a view to be transparent in its activities.
The event is targeted to restoring the leadership of the student union government and creating a mutual understanding between the union and students of the University.
In his speech, the President, Student Union Government, Bayero University, Sadi Garba Sa’id, said, the town hall meeting is aimed at changing the style of student unionism in the school, Kano state and the country at large.
He said, “Usually what we do for example, there is what we call capital budget, current budget that we generate from the students. So usually, the executives close door and design what to do with money – whatever they think will be of their favor politically or the other way round. When I came I see that, in my own administration I will change the style, open the floor and find a place where I will interact, discuss, propose my budget to all and seek for suggestion and opinion for the better”.

He further said his administration will work towards bridging the gap between the students and the university management which have been non mutual for long – information gap.
He therefore encourage fellow students to bring forth their inputs they feel will contribute to the development of the students welfare whilst their stay in campus.
On his part, Lead, Student Transparency Partnership (STP), Sulaiman Madobi, while responding to questions from THE CAMPUS WATCH, expressed satisfaction on the activities of the union urging other student unions to emulate the gesture.
He said, “we made a research and found that there is high level of misappropriation and mismanagement by some union executives, so, we drafted a policy advocating for the school management to adopt the policy in order to regulate the level of misappropriation by some union executive, which they did”.
He added that, chapter of the BUK SUG is doing well in complying with the students transparency partnership in a lot of things that will strengthen the students transparency and accountability organisation in BUK.
The town hall meeting got in attendance host of students from various departments of the University.
