President Bola Tinubu will depart Lagos on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, for Pretoria, South Africa, to attend the inauguration of President Cyril Ramaphosa. The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, who confirmed that President Tinubu will return to Nigeria after the ceremony.

Following a coalition deal between the African National Congress (ANC) and opposition parties, South Africa’s parliament re-elected Cyril Ramaphosa. The new administration includes the ANC, the Democratic Alliance (DA), and other parties, marking a significant political shift after 30 years of ANC dominance since the end of apartheid.

President Tinubu had earlier congratulated Ramaphosa on his re-election, expressing hopes for strengthened bilateral relations between Nigeria and South Africa.
