WAEC: Mixed Feelings as Kano Merges 33 Boarding Schools into 12 Centres

INFOMEDIA – Kano State government has directed final year students in public boarding secondary schools to converge in 12 centres to sit for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination organised by West African Examination Council (WAEC) starting on August 17, 2020.

The Executive Secretary, Kano State Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSMB), Bello Shehu, gave the directives on Thursday.

Shehu said the arrangement was to ensure adequate safety and well-being of the students.

He, however, said students of the 161 government-owned day secondary schools would write the WAEC final exams in their respective schools.

Shehu listed the 12 WAEC centres for boarding students as follows:

• GGUC Kachako, GGSS Sumaila, and GGSS Albasu are to be at Government Girls’ Unity College, Kachako.
• GGSS Kura, GGSS Madobi, and GGC Kano are to meet at Government Girls Collage Kano
• GGAC Goron Dutse, GGASS Danbatta, and GGASS Tudun Wada are to be at Government Girls’ Arabic Collage Goron Dutse
• GGC Dala and GGSS Kwa are to write their examination at Government Girls’ Collage Dala
• GGSS Shekara, GGSS, ‘Yar Gaya, and GGSS Kabo are to be at Government Girls’ Secondary School, Shekara.
• GGSS , Jogana, GGC, Gezawa, and GGSS, Jambaki are to be at Government Girls’ Secondary School Jogana
• GSS, Karaye, GSS, Kafin Mai Yaki, GC, Tudun Wada, and GSS, Kwankwaso are to write their examination at Government Secondary School Karaye
• GSS, Sumaila, GSS, Rano, GASS, Tsangaya, and GSS, Ajingi are to be at Government Secondary School Sumaila
• GSS, Danbatta, GSS, Bichi, GSS , Bagwai, and GSCS, Wudil are to be at Government Secondary School, Danbatta
• GSS, Gwarzo and GSS, Dawkin Tofa are to be at Government Secondary School, Gwarzo.
• GSS, Tudun Maliki to remain at their centre while students of Chinese Bilingual College is to also remain at their centre.The KSSSMB executive secretary urged parents to ensure that their wards reported to the appropriate centre on Sunday, August 9.On Thursday, the Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, launched the fumigation of private and public secondary schools in the state.

  Ganduje, represented by his Deputy, who is also the Chairman of the task force on COVID-19, Dr Nasir Yusif Gawuna, said the commencement of the fumigation with private schools was for them to know that they were part of the government.

  The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Kabir Ibrahim Getso, said 199 public schools would be fumigated, while 329 private schools would also benefit.

  In a remark, the state Chairman Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Muhammad Mallam Adamu, thanked the governor for the gesture.
