Armed Banditry And Regional Crises In Nigeria

INFOMEDIA – The fundamental duty of a healthy government is the protection of life and properties of the denizens of the node. Nigerian security architecture is outdated, it can not deal with emerging crimes of this millennium period. Nigeria is at risk.

It has come to a situation where rebels have a standard location in Nigeria just like a central government, they kidnapped and collects ransom from the government which is uncalled for. The level of insecurity further increased when farmers/herdsmen clashes metamorphosed into armed banditry.

Armed Bandit national leader, Malam Halilu (Dogo Gide) has turned killings and kidnapping into a legal business in Nigeria, where you must pay ransom before he released your abducted people.

He has uncountable number of armed teams all over the country with sophisticated weapons, rucket launchers, magazines and uncountable animations sorrounding all their body, some with large and heavy magazines. In one of his recent released video, he sworn that, he has more man power and sophisticated weapons than Nigeria herself.

Armed bandits that raid pastoralists, farmers, travelers, and even businessmen have taken a huge toll in terms of lives and disrupted economic activities by attacking the network of highways that link the country with other parts of Africa. In the worst affected areas of the Northwest (Headquarters), harvests are threatened as most people are afraid to go to their farms for fear of being attacked.

Nigerian constitution is outdated, it need panel beating, reconstruction and amendments. The multifacet crimes in this millennium period need utmost attention and consideration, if left unchecked or untreated; it may lead to anarchy.

We have to modernize and digitalise our security architecture so as to deal with emerging crimes. The diversification and changing pattern of crimes as a result of increase in information communication technology (ICT) into cyber crime necessitates the urgent need of digital policing.

Our writings are no more regarded any more yet, it appears in the most popular news papers in Nigeria. Researchers, academicians in security studies are with vast knowledge on how to solve Nigerian problems; they only read our articles and dumped it without implementation (putting it into practice).

Despite all these social vices yet, another baseless issue came into existence that will bring more harm than good. It is high time we stop all these south/north crises over food items, animals or all other resources. It was planned by foreigners to divide us and rule us. That is why Kwame Nkurma of Ghana said “a state in the grip of neocolonialism is not the master of it own destiny, to those who practiced it; it means power with out responsibility, and to those who suffered it; it means exploitation without redressed”.

There was a time when President Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik) told Sir Ahmadu Bello (Sardauna of Sokoto) to forget their differences and build Nigeria. Sir Ahmadu Bello said no, let us understand our differences; you are a southerner and a Christian while I am a northerner and a Muslim. They are true leaders by example. From all ramifications, the labour of our heroes past are on it way to go in vain.

Both south and north live interdependent, we have a symbiotic relationship as opposed to parasitism. We benefits from each other. And injury for one; is an injury for all. Therefore, let us focus on solving the security problems of this nation and proceed to nation building.

I am calling the attention of all Nigerians both south and north to desists from all these criminal activities that will cost more harm than good. Let every body contribute his quota to national security and national security is second to none.

God bless Nigeria, I have a dream of a better Nigeria.
