Travellers going to Nigeria from Benin Republic have decried the untold hardship they are undergoing after the unannounced closure of the border without any prior notice.

However Seme Border is a settlement in Nigeria on the border with Benin, it’s a 30mins drive from Badagry on the coastal road between Lagos and Cotonou.

The closure is causing untold hardship to travellers of both nationals of Benin and Nigeria, it is believed that many trucks conveying imported goods are left stranded.

Seme border is one the most illegal route people engage to transport their goods in and out of Nigeria.

The border is said to generate a whopping sum of ₦6.3billion in 2018.

Nevertheless parcels of cannabis in noodles truck was some time in March 2019 intercepted the Customs Service Area Command, has said it has intercepted 20 sacks of 1,582 parcels of Cannabis Sativa( Indian Hemp) worth over ₦30million.

Many people believe that the closure is part of a routine inter border excercise which is very unusual, Neither the Nigeria officials or Benin Government are yet to give any official announcement for the closure.
