[TRENDING Now on Twitter] ‘You’re Part of Nigeria’s Problem’ – Students Blast ASUU, FG over ‘Unending Strike’

INFOMEDIA – Thousands of Nigerians who are mostly students have taken a swipe on the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, over their inability to reach consensus on the ongoing negotiations for ending the strike action in the country.

Recall that the university lecturers had been on strike for the past seven months over the union’s refusal to adopt the Federal Government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS.

This development triggered thousands of reactions from Nigerians on social media, with some alleging that the ASSU and the FG are playing with the future of the Nigerian education.

Below are some reactions from Twitter:

@MFaarees: “The ASUU and FG started negotiating immediately when #EndSARS protest began to spread all over the country, but now that there’s no need for ASUU to suspend the strike, the FG turned a blind eye and doesn’t care about the future of Nigerian Youth, FG has no concern for education.”

@aminuyaro: “Dear Nigerian Students, we most join hands to call on FG to accept UTAS as an appropriate system for Nigerian universities. UTAS is made in Nigeria and It’s Free. IPPIS is under US base company & will cost about 5 billion Naira per Year. ASUU and FG saga should come to an end.”

@Mohnice: “ASUU and FG are part of Nigerian problem, they keep on churning half-baked graduates out of the system if professors are producing educated illiterates, what will the illiterates produce for the nation in the near future. Our education is rubbish with moribund curriculum!”

@_marisamourr: “If those National assembly people can swallow billions without anything to show for it.. let the FG pay ASUU and equip the universities… When the FG was stealing and wasting monies they should have known better! Asuu and FG stop playing with our siblings future.”

@TopeAkinyode: “ASUU and FG almost finalised their agreement during the intense period of the #EndSARS protest but as soon as the protest subsided, the insincerity of the government to honour agreement became full blown.”

@Sarauniya_Mimi: “Any ASUU and FG meeting should have student representatives. At least then we’d get to know why all their meetings yield no fruit… And we’ll know who to send thunder to as well ASUU.”

@abdool_moh: “The fight between ASUU and FG always leaves students at the receiving end, they make students stay longer than the stipulated years of schooling and then give them age limit for applying jobs after graduation.”

@SteveCypha “If ASUU and FG don’t call off this strike today, Students should just open gofundme for ASUU so that school can resume.”

@Al_ameen_Yabo: “Both ASUU and FG are playing with students’ future bcox their children are schooing in private universities or abroad. What is with all this rubbish strike, FG and asuu dragging each other for more than 10yrs, abeg settle things once and for all naaa let person graduate in time.”

@KelechiNwamadu: “Let’s put the jokes aside fr, is it until we embark on a nationwide protest again ASUU and FG will take us serious… We’ve been at home for how long now??? Even Polytechnic students have resumed about a month ago… I’m pissed fr… Destroyers the lot of them.”
