Arewa Agenda, Paradigm Initiative Urge Northern Youths to Embrace Digital Skills for Workforce Development

INFOMEDIA  The Arewa Agenda for sustainable development and Paradigm Initiative have called on youths in Northern Nigeria to embrace digital skills opportunities in order to key into global digital economic trend of being initiative and product.

The duo said there’s a dire need to reorient youths in northern Nigeria on being self sustaining with high achievement through the use of Information and communication technology (ICT) for them to be relevant in the rapidly changing world driven by high tech- talents.

The organizations made the call on Sunday at a Press briefing in Kano. They noted that the Federal Government has come up with various initiatives on youth empowerment, especially the provision of digital skills centres, infrastructure and literacy as well as the establishment of digital innovative hubs, libraries etc through the National Information Technology and Development Agency (NITDA) yet according to them, the meagre youths inclusion in to the digital skills programs is a course for concern in northern Nigeria.

Speaking earlier, the Managing Editor of Arewa Agenda, Mr Muhammed Dahiru Lawal said “Anyone that wants participate in this world of global jobs of this generation must learn computing and data analysis skills for an inclusive digital future”, noting that “It is true that the capabilities and skills required to use various forms of digital technologies remain limited to a small segment of the population coupled with the fact that about 60 million Nigerian adults are without access to a formal account which is a prerequisite for digital financial services, stalling the country’s journey toward financial inclusion and access to digital Economy opportunities is narrowed to a slim share of the population”.

On his part, the Program Assistant for Paradigm Initiative, Sani Suleiman Sani, called on stakeholders such as religious leaders, political actors, and traditional leaders to key into the sensitization effort, Lawal and Sani, urged Northern youths to take advantage of NITDA’s offerings to learn computing technology skills that will enable them imbibe the culture of digital entrepreneurship leading to a rebust Digital Economy as Northern States are already backward in accessing Digital Opportunities.

The Group also tasked Northern Governors to compliment the Federal Government Digital Economy efforts through the activities of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), by having a delibrate plan, allocation and releases of resources to support digital Transformation.
