Canadian Gov’t Charges Nigeria to End Insecurity, GBV and Unemployment

INFOMEDIA – The Acting Canadian high commission of Nigeria, Mr. Nicolas Simard urge the federal government to strengthen security ,End Gender Based Violence, Create jobs to the citizens during a consortium to end Gender Based violence in Kano which was organized by Connected Development on a project Galvanising Mass Actions Against Gender Based Violence in the State.

Mr Nicolas added that, many women in Nigeria has one or more experience of gender discrimination,in support from the Canadian High commision we will support and empowered vulnerable women and children, people living with disabilities, people suffering with HIV, and also to partner with the Government to see positive narration of the citizens in Kano.

On his part,the founder of Connected Development Mal Hamzat Lawal vow to Enhance CODE activities in the State by calling on Kano state government to pass the violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP), Child Protection Bill Act,and also Gender Based Violence.

However, the Attorney General of Kano State , Ministry of Justice , Barr. M.A Lawan said this Ministry is working tirelessly with other Agencies to make the the law has been implemented in the State, which some of key areas his ministry is focusing are Ending GBV, Child Abused, domestic violence, banning of Street begging, establishment of SARC center ,and also to look at a law that will go with the tradition and cultural norms of the citizens when implemented the law. kano state government will look-forward to partner and collaborate with any organization in the State

Furthermore, the co-ordinator of legal aid Kano state chapter Barister Muktar Labaran Usman kabo, said the legal aid council is always willing to help children and women that has been harrashed, by providing capacitated legal aid practioners to handle the case with passion.

The founder of Bridge connect and also the team head of GMAAK Project in Kano , Mal Sani Muhammad expressed this views on the successful output of the advocacy in the State where by 30 trained gender based advocators were selected to have more vast knowledge on GBV, tackling GBV in the society, Advocacy visits to relevant stakeholders on ways to pushes the law into implementation.
