Wife of the governor of Kano state, Dr Hafsat Abdullahi Umar Ganduje bags Great Matron Award from Nigerian Association for Administration and Planning (NAEAP), Bayero University, Kano chapter, in its Annual Chapter Conference, themed “Problems and Prospects of Accessibility to Quality Education in the 21st Century Nigeria,” held at Convocation Arena of the university, Wednesday.

The Award was conferred on her through the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, after reading a long citation of the wife of the governor, which showcases her immense contributions in the development of education in the state and the country in general.

Part of her citation reads, “Dr Hafsat began her intellectual development with Qur’anic studies at Malam Madori where she distinguished herself as an excellent student in Qur’anic studies. This forms the basis of her sound morality and passion for humanity as taught by Islamic doctrine.”

On her Western education, the citation reveals that, she started with Malam Madori Primary School, Local Education Authority (LEA), to Shekara Boarding Primary School, Kano, Women Teachers College (WTC), Kano and Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

At BUK she bagged Advance Level Certificate, Bachelor of Science Degree BSc. (Ed) in Education, Masters in Educational Psychology, Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Educational Administration and Planning.

While she attended numerous seminars, workshops and conferences, both within and outside the shores of Nigeria, she belongs to many professional bodies, like All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and Fellow Nigerian Association of Educational Administration and Planning (NAEAP), among others.

She acquired high level of intellectual prowess and vast experience in educational administration and planning. It was disclosed at the Award ceremony that, “She has served as a teacher, head of department, senior Mistress, Vice Principal, Principal, Inspector of Education and Deputy Director in Secondary Education Board of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.”

On her philanthropic engagement, it was revealed that, she is actively involved in the activities of the popular Ganduje Foundation, a non-profit organisation, that is designed to bring succour to vulnerables.

The Foundation is known for conducting health camps, provision of drugs, free eye surgeries and medicated glasses, free medical consultations and free child malnutrition relief materials. “Dr Hafsat Ganduje’s passion for communal development is manifested in her women empowerment projects which go a long way in ensuring the financial security of women and their children,” says NAEAP.

Another aspect that calls for the attention of this group for the Award is when the association believes that, “Dr Hafsat Ganduje is a Green Educationist, who believes in environmental preservation. She is involved in peace education, which resulted in her standing up against political violence. Which she believes that, is an enemy of education.”

To cap it all, it was encouraged that, Dr Hafsat Ganduje has risen from a humble beginning to become a great educationist, who has distinguished herself as an intelligent, innovative, hardworking and honest woman. A teacher and by default, a mother of all.

After mentioning how her marriage union is blessed with seven children, it further reveals that, the children comprise of ” Medical Doctor, Chattered Accountant, Electrical/Electronic Engineer, Financial Expert, two entrepreneurs and a Social Worker. And blessed with grandchildren.”

In his remarks governor Ganduje says he was honoured and felt encouraged with the Award, looking at it from the perspective of societal appreciation of Her Excellency’s immense contributions to educational development.

“I feel honoured and I do appreciate this as another aspect of encouragement. Since yesterday, I have been engaging on issues that have to do with the development of education in our state and the country in general,” says Ganduje.

Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, appreciated Ganduje’s giant strides in the education sector.

“Almost all the challenges raised by the Keynote Speaker’s paper, are being addressed squarely by the Kano state government, under Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. We are at the same time commending the governor for the free and compulsory primary and secondary education,” says Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Bello predicted that, with the good steps taken by Ganduje administration in the education sector it is clearly on the wall that, public schools are on the edge of becoming the best in the system.
