Yinka Egbeyemi, the chairman of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offenses Task Force, has said the state government will crush the 48 motorcycles seized from 123 Northerners on Friday.

A group of petty traders, artisans and commercial motorcycle operators, mostly from Jigawa State, were intercepted by the task force traveling into Lagos in a trailer.

They were later released after the intervention of Jigawa State governor, Badaru Abubakar.

In an interview with Channels TV, the chairman of the task force said he directed the arrest and profiling of 123 northerners.

Mr Egbeyemi also said the impounded motorcycles would be crushed in due course.

One of the 123 detainees who spoke to DAILY NIGERIAN said they were all released and allowed to enter Lagos but were asked to report to police station on Monday.

He said all their motorcycles have been confiscated by the authorities.
