Shops Demolition:  Roadside Traders were Issued Six Months Notice – KAROTA

INFOMEDIA – Kano Road and Traffic Agency  (KAROTA), has said that the Committee on Clearing Illegal Structures on Walkways headed by its Managing Director, Baffa Babba Dan’agundi had given the Sabon Gari Area roadside traders six months notice to vacate the roadside before embarking on the clearing exercise.

The public relations officer, Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Nabilusi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa made the clarification on Monday in a statement issued to Press, shortly after some roadside traders from Sabon Gari Market embarked on protest on Monday morning to express their grievances over the demolition of their corner shops and other business materials by the KAROTA.

He said that previous governments have provided sites for the said traders at Bompai in Nassarawa Local government to accommodate the traders, another site at Bachirawa, Ungogo Local Government and yet another site on Gwarzo road R/Zaki in Gwale Local Government Area.

INFOMEDIA reports that the corner shops were demolished on Friday night by the committee established by the state government

‘’Despite such efforts by previous administrations, the roadside traders refused to relocate to the sites provided for their use hence the government decided to demolish such illegal structures erected without governments’ approval after the six months notice expiration,’’ said the statement.

On complaints of theft recorded during the demolition, Nabilusi stated that any trader whose goods were stolen during the exercise should report to the Sabon Gari Market police division for necessary actions.’’

‘’Abubakar warned that those who want to cause public disturbances would be squarely dealt with by the Agency and its sister agencies as the government will not relent in its efforts to clear the state roads from every form of illegal structures erected on any of the state roads.’’

The committee members are Baffa Babba Dan’agundi Chairman, all Security agencies in Kano, MD REMASAB, MD Sabon Gari Market, MD KNUPDA, DG Street Trading and other top government officials.
