We actually elected people that don’t have priority list as Senators and House Members. At this critical moment when we need Industries in Small and large scales, most of these people are thinking of establishing a University is an achievement. They’re just creating liabilities.

At this moment that there’s a challenge in maintaining the existing ones, what provisions are they making for the survival of the new ones? At this moment in time of Global paradigm shift, University degree will continue to witness a steady sunset as the world is emphasizing on the importance of skills acquisition rather than paper qualification.

Instead of University here, University there, why can’t these members give emphasis on establishing new irrigation schemes and rehabilitation of existing ones, clearing new Farm Fields, working on establishing world class Skills Acquisition Centres, working on the rehabilitation of our Roads that have become death traps, working on genuinely establishing Small and Medium Scale industries that will pave way for the springing up of bigger ones etc. Why cannot these people keep politics aside and face squarely the societal menace that will inevitably consume all of us in not too distant time of Almajirchi by working on an idealistic realistic solution?

Instead of Agriculture University Futua, why not resurrect the almost dead cotton and textile value chain around Funtua axis which will for sure bring to tables tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs?

Instead of University of Agriculture Zuru, that will produce degree holders with no jobs, why not upgrade the famous College of Agriculture Zuru to World Class Standard Centre for Agricultural Enterprises that will train our teeming Youths on production and processing of Agricultural produce of crops and Livestock?

Poor funding of the existing Universities and other Tertiary Institutions across the Country is what is responsible for the drastic fall into abyss of the quality of the output of what is produced of graduates. Majority get into the University just to get the certificate as a meal ticket (job seeking).

I observed in most of the European Countries, one hardly sees their citizens in their Universities, majority of the students in those Universities are Foreigners. Few of their successful people went to the University, but largely they give more pertinence to skills acquisition and apprenticeship.

Establishment of a very good Primary and Secondary School is far more important than establishing a University for the community. How can a University be in a place where majority don’t have confidence to take their wards to Government owned Primary and Secondary Schools? It is an established fact that majority of these members don’t take their children to public basic schools and majority of their kids have studied or are still studying in foreign countries.

One of the biggest achievements of University degree in Nigeria is building an edifice of superiority complex and arrogance between people up to an extent it became an establishment war between degree holders and HND holders.

I know of many families that don’t allow their daughters to marry a non degree holder as they tag them people without future.

The reasons is chiefly because we don’t have any value for apprenticeship. We are all looking for a white collar jobs that gives Monthly stipends instead of blue collar ones that gives steady income.

Our Members shall wake up from ignorance infused hangover and have priority list of what their people need, not what they (members) need for their monetary and political gains.

Always take to the market what the market wants to buy not what you want sell. Establishment of Universities is no more an achievement but a future drawback of the clock-hand of societal progress.
