Students from Dept of economic Bayeoro University Kano, has embark on sickle cell sensitization campaign with the aim of eroding stigma.

The campaign highlights diverse stories told by patients, caregivers, friends, and family to educate students and to help eradicate disease stigmas.

The sickle cell experience is highly varied, and highlighting the personal stories of these individuals, as well as their family and friends, will help grow understanding and awareness of this condition, Sickle cell anemia is an inherited form of anemia — a condition in which there aren’t enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen throughout your body.

Normally, your red blood cells are flexible and round, moving easily through your blood vessels.

Infomedia gathered that, the campaign is a group assignment given to them against sickle cell but pick an interest to participate and help create awareness to the students on campus.

During the campaign, they encouraged students to check their genotype and also demonstrated emphasis on the need for the students to consider and understand their genotype when choosing a life partner.

One of the campaign team lead express optimism to Infomedia that “Though the campaign is for our C. A which is 40 mark, but I really feel fulfilled and happy doing this, this issue has been a kind of burden to me as many young ones make mistakes all in the name of love and at the end of the day making their young ones suffer of this disease called sickle cell”.
