The newly elected SUG Leaders attended a leadership training seminar organized by the Deanery of Students the Affairs at the Students’ Affairs Division.

The training involved all the SUG executives, Students’ Representative Assembly, the Union Court, all faculty-based associations as well as the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) and the Student Christian Association of Nigeria (SCAN).

While declaring the training open, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Shamsuddeen Umar challenged the students to take advantage of the opportunity and empower themselves with the leadership skills learnt during the event.

According to Dr. Umar, the training was rich in presentations on effective student leadership, financial management, conflict resolution and financial
accountability, among others.

It also gave the students opportunity to express their views in an open forum. The Dean also enumerated the University’s achievements and urged the leaders to be focused and to strive to move the student leadership to another level. He added that, this year’s training also included the immediate past SUG
leadership executives.

The training was facilitated by the Deanery of Student Affairs, while papers presented in the training included that of Dr. Muhammad Maina titled Leadership within and beyond the University, that of Malam Sani Sa’idu, a former SUG President titled Power Separation and Spirit of Unionism, that of Malam Bashir Zubair, Accountability and Financial Prudence, and that of Maryam L. Umar,
Active Citizens: Spirit of Teamwork.
The SUG leaders also had an interactive session and showed cooperation and readiness to work with spirit of
teamwork, accountability and with financial prudence.
