Student Union Government, Bayero University Kano has rejected in its entirety all fees increment by the university that includes hostel, administrative and departmental fees as contained in the institution weekly bulletin of Friday 6th December.

This was part of the resolution of Joint meetings by executive members of the Student Representative Assembly, Muslims Students Society of Nigeria and other association representatives held on Saturday.

INFOMEDIA recalled that the University Senate approved the increase in its 378th meeting as reported in the BUK official bulletin.

According to the bulletin, the hostel fees for Nigerian students has been increased from N12, 150 to N25, 150.

Similarly, undergraduate students will pay N20, 090 hostel fee as againstN12, 090, while bed space without mattress goes for N12,090  as against N7,090.

The fee increment also affected acceptance fee for all undergraduate courses from N5, 000 to N10, 000.

A letter addressed to the University  Vice-Chancellor and jointly signed by President SUG-BUK Sadi Garba Said, Amir MSSN BUK Branch, Lukman Usman Aliyu and President ASO BUK Fakhrudeen Auwal Taheer, and obtained by INFOMEDIA expressed surprise that none of the unions were consulted before the upward review of fees, which is the standard practice.

The letter also demanded clarification for the two hundred naira claimed to be deducted as some departmental associations confirmed that they only receive one hundred naira per student as against the two hundred naira claim

The unions in their resolution issued an ultimatum of Friday, December 13th for a favorable response from the university authority to their rejections or otherwise.
